Why Windows Get Foggy
Double-pane windows have a seal between the two panes of glass. Over time, this seal can fail, allowing moisture inside. This moisture condenses, creating fog between the panes.
Option 1: Defogging (Temporary Fix)
Some companies offer defogging: drilling small holes, removing moisture, and sealing the holes. Cost: $150–$300 per window. How long does defogging last? 3–7 years. It’s a band-aid, not a permanent solution.
Option 2: Replace Just the Inner Pane (Affordable)
If your window frame is good but one pane is foggy, we can replace just that pane. Cost: $250–$400 per window. This is our most popular option.
Option 3: Full Window Replacement (Best Long-Term)
Replace the entire window with a new one. Cost: $400–$800 per window. You get a new seal, better insulation, and a 10-year warranty.
Our Recommendation
For most Charlotte homeowners, Option 2 (replace one pane) makes sense. You save money compared to full replacement, and your window works like new.
Real Example from South End
A South End condo had 6 foggy windows. Replacing one pane on each window cost $1,800 total. The homeowner got clear views and better insulation for half the cost of full replacement.
