Cloudy glass can look like a cleaning problem, but the location of the haze is the first useful clue. A few clear photos can help a glass professional understand what to inspect before preparing a quote.
First, notice where the moisture appears
Condensation on the room-facing surface may wipe away with ordinary glass cleaning. Outdoor condensation can also appear when weather and surface temperatures line up. Those surface conditions are different from a cloudy appearance trapped between the panes of an insulated glass unit (IGU).
If the haze seems to sit inside the sealed space and cannot be reached from either accessible face, the insulated unit may have lost its seal. The U.S. Department of Energy’s window guidance identifies condensation between IGU layers as a sign of seal failure. A photo is a helpful clue, though it cannot confirm the exact cause or the right repair by itself.
Photos that make an estimate more useful
- Take one wide photo showing the full window and its location in the room.
- Take a closer photo of the cloudy area, with enough surrounding glass to show its position.
- Tell us whether the moisture wipes from the inside surface, appears on the outside, or seems trapped between panes. Do not touch cracked or broken glass to check.
- Include the frame and sill if they are visible from a safe position. A label or model information can help if it is easy to photograph.
- Share the approximate number of affected windows and any safe-to-measure dimensions. Never climb or reach outside to take a measurement.
Photos help narrow the questions; an inspection may still be needed to confirm measurements, glass build, frame condition, and available replacement options.
Glass-only repair or a full window?
Lumira Glass describes window repair as work on the glass itself. Its guidance for fogged or cloudy insulated windows says the insulated glass unit needs replacement once its seal is compromised. Replacing that glass unit is different from replacing the entire window system; the frame, condition, and project scope determine which route fits.
For details about Lumira’s window glass repair service, or to request a quote, include the photos and notes above. The team can review the information and determine what should be checked next.
